This is going to be my last update since it's the end of the project. In the end I will have finished six drawings which is what I was aiming for once I realised that the way I was drawing these took a lot longer than I thought. It was also very hard to stay motivated since I guess I kind of suck at picking projects that I will enjoy the whole time. Luckily this last drawing I'm doing is a lot of fun and I'm really excited to finish it. It will probably be done sometime next week since coloring might take a while, there's a lot of small details I need to make it look proper. I'm almost done the sketch i just need to finish the cobblestone for the wall and I can start coloring. I also finished the drawing from my last post and I like how that one turned out I found a nice way to do the tree that I hadn't done before.

I have started the sketch for my fourth drawing and I should only need one more day to finish and start the color. The color for this drawing shouldn't take too long because the characters clothes are to most detailed thing to color in this drawing. I will be able to finish at least one more drawing after this one but I'm hoping to be able to finish two. I don't want to cut back too much on what I had originally planned for but I didn't realize how long it would take to finish the first drawing.
I've gotten farther with my drawings and I've changed the style I was going for, I started going for a more simplistic blocky style. I didn't use shading and stuff like that and I kind of like the way it looks. I started and finished the sketch for the third drawing and started the coloring, I should be done the drawing by the end of next week and should be able to start the next one.
Hey this is my third update for my independent project. I'm going to be honest this project and the drawings I'm doing are taking a lot longer then I had planned. I also know that I'm not very good with projects that take this long to complete because I tend to lose interest very fast and then I lose the motivation to keep up with the project. Every year that I did the independent project I fell behind because I always lost interest in what I was making, creating series' aren't really my thing and I also hate planning when it comes to art so this project was always really hard for me. I'm going to have to make six drawings instead of seven I've gotten close to finishing the first two but I don't know what exactly I want to do with the lighting I want to try soft shading instead of the hard shading I normally use and I think that will give it the feel that I want. I have the idea for the third drawing that I'll skip the rough sketch for and just go straight to digital. I also have another idea that I might have to do the rough sketch for first to figure out placing, I also have to do a little thinking as to how a camera would work and look if it were in a D&D campaign so I got to figure that out.
Ok so it's been a bit and its time for another update on my project. Turns out the color takes a lot longer then I thought since I'm doing something new instead of what I would normally do with my other drawings. So I am getting behind on my goal if I can't catch up I might have to only make six drawing instead of seven. I'm close to getting the base color done on the first and need to start the base color on the second. That shouldn't take too long since it would mainly consist of browns and greens. I won't have much time this weekend to do work since family is coming over, but I will try to get some done. I also changed the setting of the second drawing from what I originally had in the rough sketch and I think the new one is a lot better.
Hey, this is my first post in a while, during this semester I get to create another independent project. This year I'm going to create seven art pieces showing three characters that I drew last year interacting together, kind of like a slice of life comic but each part is only one panel and most likely won't have any words or speech bubbles. I'm giving myself two weeks for each drawing so if everything goes to plan I'll finish the project within the first week or two of June. So far I've almost rough sketched two drawings and I'm almost finished the digital sketch. I'll finish the whole drawing over next week and start the digital sketch for the second drawing before class starts again. During that time I can also start more rough sketches since they don't take much time. I'll update every two weeks till the project is finished.
I’ve been working on my project for a little bit now since quarantine became a thing but I haven’t gotten too much done. I’ve been struggling with finding motivation to do pretty much anything other than laying in bed and staring at a wall. Being alone with your thoughts also isn’t too fun but we’ll skip that part. I’m trying my hardest to break that and I’ve continued working on my sketches for my project, when the due date comes around I’ll have 6 complete digital drawings, right now I have 7 sketches and plan on making more and eliminating some of the unneeded ones because I want to make sure that I have the most important parts of the story drawn out. I’m getting better at drawing the figures as I go which is really helpful and makes the process a lot easier when I start the drawings on my iPad. I’m still slightly editing the story as I go to make it sound better and smoother and still adding to the end.
Here's some sketches that I've done so far. Hey! This is my first blog talking about my independent project for VAM 20. My idea for my project is creating graphics for a story that I started writing about a year ago. I’ve wanted to create at least some image type thing to go along with the story but I never got to do it. Now that I’m doing it VAM I get to go even further with it and I’m so excited. I’ve pictured what certain scenes in the story would already look like, almost like movie covers. I just need to get the sketches down on paper and then I can start drawing them digitally, which will end up being the final product. At the end of the project I want to have at least six different graphics showcasing different parts in the story. All the digital stuff will be done with my own supplies since I do all of my digital drawings on my iPad on an app called AutoDesk Sketchbook. Right now I’m going over my story and editing it as I feel is best and also getting others to look at it since they might see something that I don’t. Going over the story again also helps me find spots that I could draw graphics for. I’ve always been super passionate about digital art and all the stuff that comes with it, this project lets me explore more of that and I can’t wait.
Last year a made two smart goals and only completed one of them. This year I just need to make one smart goal, and for this one I want to animate videos for my YouTube channel. A while ago I started an animation channel before summer break. I haven’t posted anything on it yet so that’s why I’m making this smart goal. I only have around a hundred frames and less then two scenes done. I have a lot of video ideas and the type of content I’m making is storytime type videos like the ones I love to watch.
I want to animate for at least 45 minutes a day till January. I feel like 45 minutes is a good amount of time for me to get stuff done and also enough time to get on a roll and not want to stop so I would get even more done. I have enough time each day to animate for that long if not more and I also have the motivation to do this which will make it easier. It’s also a very easy thing to do, since I have the software and tools to do it at home. I’ve wanted to have a YouTube channel for animation for such a long time but I never thought I was good enough at animation to do it. Last year I found the right design for my avatar and it made me decide to finally create the channel. I want to make three videos by January and I would animate for 45 minutes every day to make that happen. The videos would be a couple minutes long each depending on how long the audio and story is. This year I improved my art a lot, or at least I think so. The main thing I wanted to accomplish this year was to find the style I like to draw in because I’ve always struggled to find that. I changed my art style almost every time I drew and never really liked the way it turned out. When I was working on my independent project towards the end of the story the art got better because I found the way I like to draw. I also started an animation YouTube channel where my character is drawn differently then in my comic which is another style that fits me, I will post the link for my channel on my website after I posted my first video. I got a lot better and became more confident while I paint then when I first started, I was always scared that I would mess it up but I realized that if I always think like that then I would never paint anything. I found a lot of things that I now like doing in my free time and started doing some more frequently that I already knew I liked doing. Overall this was a pretty good year I met new people and made new friends. I had a lot of fun and can wait to go back next year.
